Standards-based Education and the World of Special Education: Collision Course?

This clinic will explore how the standards-based education movement may impact a school district’s duties under state and federal special education laws.  Attorneys will discuss how proficiency-based diplomas could impact your duties to special education students, including consideration of extended programming years, compensatory education claims, the risks of not awarding diplomas to identified special education students when proficiency standards are not met, and the challenges of drafting IEP goals and shaping the curriculum delivered to special education students in the world of the Common Core.
