DRUMMOND WOODSUM SHAREHOLDER RICHARD A. SPENCER VOLUNTEERS OVERSEAS
February 10, 2014
Drummond Woodsum, an entrepreneurial full-service law firm in Maine and New Hampshire, announced today that attorney Richard A. Spencer will be spending 6 weeks in Thailand and Burma/Myanmar, assisting with an environmental law project under the auspices of The International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP).
Dick will work with one of Burma's ethnic minorities (Karen) developing environmental laws to manage the region's natural resources. Burma, officially The Republic of Myanmar, is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia bordered by Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand.
This is Dick's second ISLP assignment. In 2006, he spent four months working in Ulan Bator with the Centre for Human Rights and Development (CHRD), a small public interest organization that has become a leading player in Mongolia's environmental movement.
Of his ISLP Projects, Spencer said, "I'm excited for this opportunity and pleased that my professional experiences in Maine can be put to use helping people in developing nations in other parts of the world."
Dick is a member of Drummond Woodsum's Environmental & Land Use Law Practice Group in the firm's Portland, Maine office. His practice focuses on complex problems which require effective advocacy at the local and state levels and before administrative agencies, the state courts and the Legislature.
Dick is a cum laude graduate of Harvard College and earned his law degree from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar.
